Message from the
EAST TEXAS BLACK BEAR TASK FORCE (ETBBTF)
to
Landowner Associations, Hunter Groups and Timber Associations
Black Bears are a part of the natural heritage of Texas.
The black bear is an important barometer for the health of a forest and a testament to well-managed habitats and tree stands. We realize that some residents of east Texas regard the black bear as an inconvenience, but most of their concerns are based on incomplete information. The members of the ETBBTF hope that landowners in the East Texas region will become actively informed about the bear and bear restoration efforts, and take pride and ownership in the return of this animal to our proud state. You have an important role to play in the recovery of the bear.
We would like to take this opportunity to offer our network of well educated task force members to come speak at your next Association meeting to answer any questions, to dispel any myths about bears and address any concerns your members may have. You can also download a paper copy of our Landowner in Support of Black Bear Restoration Sign that we would like to offer to any of the members of your Association to proudly post on their properties. We can bring these to your meeting along with some fun educational items like education kits, brochures, bear skulls, claws and teeth so attendees can become more “bear aware”. We look forward to hearing from you soon. For scheduling information please contact texasbears@bbcc.org.
