The Black Bear Conservation Committee (BBCC) works to
promote the philosophy that a healthy bear population is an
asset to the community and that with protection and
responsible management, the black bear can co-exist with
other land use objectives.
The BBCC conducts presentations at many different forums
throughout the region. In a typical year, the BBCC: conducts
20 educational programs for students from kindergarten to
graduate school, gives 12 informative talks with civic
groups, and run exhibits at festivals and expos. Through its
Landowner Assistance Program, the BBCC also conducts
workshops to help private landowners find financial
assistance to restore bottomland hardwood forest on their
lands.
